the ark

yesterday we had an amazing opportunity. Yet another one to add to my "once in a life time" quickly growing list. We got to go here. They are putting this away forever so it literally was an experience of a lifetime. I marveled at the beauty of these documents, at the people who kept these records, and the devotion that they kept. We also saw this, which was so awesome, a living replica of a time and place I think I will come to learn intimately.

After the museum, we split up into groups, and our van went to the Biblical Zoo, where we saw a vast array animalia that lived in the Holy Land during Bible times. It would have looked like any other zoo in the states except... well, lets just say that the cages aren't quite as secure as the ones in the states. Having a small wire fence, a ditch, and another short iron fence separate me from the cheetahs didn't quite feel like enough. We got to walk right up to the kangaroos, and even had an encounter with the birds in the tropical aviary that resulted with Cheese getting a little "present" dropped on her finger, and me having a show down with a specimen and some mighty large talons.

However, the highlight of the visit was the ark. Yes the ark. We walked up to it's high, sloping, wooden sides and giggled with delight at the picture possibilities that opened up to us. So fun.

off to do yet another reading assignment,

A stand off with a large bird with talons? Scary Sis!

Quick question: what on earth are you doing in that second picture? ;)

Was the ark supposed to be based on the dimensions in the Bible? don't you always wonder about the cleanup of the animals. I had a teacher suggest that Noah may have put the animals into hibernation, which sounded like a solution to the cleanup and feeding problems. Ah, the noise and the flies if they were all awake!
